Actor Brendan Fraser was named as the honorary starter for the Indianapolis 500 on Friday, May 15.

Fraser will stand on the starter’s perch and wave the green flag to officially start the race known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

Fraser joins a list of actors Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal who have also held the honor.

Fraser has ties to the state, being born in Indianapolis before moving to Europe and Canada.

The 57-year-old is known for his featured roles as “George of the Jungle” and Rick O’Connell in the “Mummy” movie series.

He won an Academy Award in 2023 for best performance in a leading role for “The Whale.”

Fraser will star in the upcoming movie “Pressure,” which chronicles the three-day timeline leading up to D-Day.

When does Indy 500 start?

Fraser will wave the green flag at 12:45 p.m. ET to officially begin the 110th Indy 500 on Sunday, May 24.
