Deion Sanders is no stranger to splashy moves, whether that is adding an elite five-star no one saw coming or hiring one of the top up-and-coming coaches, Brennan Marion, to lead his Colorado Buffaloes‘ offense.
We have looked at the Marion hire from all angles, including what his offense might look like, his plans to involve everyone and how the former Sacramento State head coach’s leadership could play a pivotal role.

Is Brennan Marion the Big 12’s most interesting offensive hire?
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg analyzed the hire from a conference perspective, labeling Marion the Big 12’s “most interesting” coordinator hire of the offseason.
“Marion is a young, dynamic coach who quickly facilitated improvement at UNLV, which ranked 11th nationally in scoring (34.9 PPG) during his two seasons as coordinator,” Rittenberg wrote. “The ‘Go-Go offense’ operates with pace and applies pressure to defenses in different ways by varying formations and emphasizing the downhill run game.”
Colorado and the Go-Go offense
To run the “Go-Go,” the former FCS head coach brought over several players who had crossed paths with him in the past. Those include Sacramento State players wide receiver Ernest Campbell, offensive lineman Jose Soto, and running backs Damian Henderson II and Jaquail Smith. Wide receiver DeAndre Moore Jr. is another addition with a past connection to Marion, as a former recruiting target when Marion was Texas’ pass game coordinator and wide receivers coach.

The list of starting caliber playmakers the Buffs have is no problem for Marion, who loves to spread the ball around.
“That’s the unique thing about our offense, where one guy doesn’t dominate the ball,” Marion told Phillip Dukes of The Scoop with Dukes podcast. “Multiple guys get a chance to operate, touch the ball, make plays and have an impact on the game.”
Rittenberg believes Marion’s offense will transfer to Boulder, which could leave Sanders and Colorado looking for another offensive coordinator, perhaps as soon as next year. However, for now, Marion is tasked with leading a talented offense, with star quarterback Julian Lewis as the most important piece.
