Brescia University women’s basketball advanced to the River States Conference Tournament semifinals with an 86-75 win over Midway on Wednesday night at the Horn Center.
It’s the first time Brescia has reached the conference semifinals since the 2015-16 season. Brescia has an 18-9 record this season.
Caroline Lucas led Brescia with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting and five assists. Jenna Krampe put up a double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds.
The Lady Bearcats, despite defeating the Eagles earlier in the season, quickly saw themselves down 15-5 to start the first quarter. BU worked their way back as a three-pointer by Hailee Johnson and a jump shot by Jordan Joe tied the game at 19 before the start of the second quarter.
Out of the break, Genesis Ghide-Bryan turned the corner off a screen to grab the easy layup. Ameila Mackey found her stroke as she sunk her second three of the game. Back-to-back shots by Shelbie Beatty gave the Lady Bearcats a five-point lead with six minutes left until the half. Graci Risley put two threes through the hoop to extend the lead to 35-29.
BU outscored the Eagles 31-11 in the third quarter as it held Midway to just 18% shooting from the floor while shooting 66% itself. The largest lead of the night for Brescia, a 30-point margin, came at the start of the fourth.
The Bearcats will head to Portsmouth, OH to take on top seeded Shawnee State on Saturday at 3pm CT.
