Vandals name Ford coach
Thomas Ford, who spent two seasons as Jason Eck’s special teams coordinator and running backs coach at the University of Idaho, has been named to replace Eck as the Vandals coach.
Idaho director of athletics Terry Gawlik announced the move Wednesday, four days after Eck stepped down to become the head coach at New Mexico.
Ford spent this past season as running backs coach at Oregon State; the Beavers’ Anthony Hankerson ran for 1,082 yards. In 2023 Idaho’s Anthony Woods ran for 1,155 yards and 16 scores under Ford’s tutelage.
“We’re going to be aggressive in everything we do,” Ford said. “Schematically on offense, defense, and special teams and especially in recruiting.”
Glacier’s Pevey signs with UM
Jaidyn Pevey, a senior at Glacier High School, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to compete in track and field at the University of Montana.
As a junior Pevey cleared 5 feet, 3 inches in the high jump at four meets. She finished second at the Pilcher Top 10 meet (reaching 5-4) last April, was third at the Archie Roe Invitational and placed sixth at the State AA meet.
Tanyon Murray to golf at SFCC
Tanyon Murray, a standout golfer for the two-time State AA champion Glacier Wolfpack, signed a letter of intent to play for Spokane Falls Community College.
Murray finished 17th at the most recent State AA meet, held at Northern Pines in Kalispell.
In 2023 he tied for sixth at the State AA meet at Lake Hills in Billings.
Eli Gillman Staying at UM
In a post by Good Ol’ Grizzlies NIL property on Twitter/X, Eli Gillman confirmed he was continuing to play football for the Montana Grizzlies in 2025.
“Back to Work” was the headline posted over a picture of Gillman, the 2023 Jerry Rice Award winner for the top freshman in the FCS.
There was some speculation that Gillman, who ran for 1,104 yards and 15 touchdowns this season for the 9-5 Grizzlies, might enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Gillman’s younger brother Monte was a redshirt for the Grizzlies in 2024.
