Brittney Griner Loses Exclusive Spot In Women’s Basketball History

Brittney Griner is no longer by herself at the top of an impressive women’s basketball category.

The 35-year-old WNBA star is one of the most dominant players in women’s basketball history. Griner, a three-time Olympic gold medalist with the U.S. women’s national basketball team and a six-time WNBA All-Star, had a dominant collegiate career, while also making waves overseas. Griner starred at Baylor for legendary head coach Kim Mulkey, winning the NCAA Tournament in 2012 and back-to-back Player of the Year Awards in ’12 and ’13.

Griner, who went No. 1 overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft, still holds a lot of Baylor records, along with some Big 12 and NCAA marks. But one of them has been tied by a fellow women’s basketball standout.

Griner, a dominant and powerful center, had five 40-point games during her career at Baylor. At the time, it was the most in Big 12 Conference history. Few, if any, people expected that mark to be tied or surpassed.

But now, it has.

Iowa State star forward Audi Crooks torched the Kansas State Wildcats on Sunday night. She finished the game with 41 points, 13 rebounds and two assists. Crooks shot 16-of-19 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line.

En route to the win, Griner’s mark was tied.

“This is Crooks’ FIFTH career 40-point game, tying Brittney Griner for the most in Big 12 history,” the post from ESPN Insights read.
