It has been an extremely busy Friday in the WNBA with free agency in full swing. Some of the biggest names are already off the market, with stars such as Kelsey Mitchell and Chelsea Gray, among others, re-signing with their respective teams.
Brittney Griner is another sought-after star in free agency. The 10-time All-Star is coming off a campaign with the Atlanta Dream, where she dropped to a reserve role for the first time in her illustrious career.

According to a new report on Friday night, Griner has already made her decision. The 35-year-old is reportedly signing with the Connecticut Sun.

Griner played the first 11 seasons of her career with the Phoenix Mercury, where she firmly established herself as one of the greatest centers in league history. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year parted ways with the Mercury ahead of the 2025 season, opting to sign a one-year deal with Atlanta.
Griner signed with the Dream as their starting center. However, a mid-season injury led to a bench role for the 6-foot-9 center. She finished the season with career-low averages of 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 20.8 minutes per game.

Griner is now looking to have a more impactful year in 2026. According to reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby, the Sun are finalizing a seven-figure deal to bring Griner to Connecticut.
The Sun will be Griner’s third team in three years. However, the fact that she is expected to sign a deal worth upwards of $1 million is an indication of how much value she still holds at this point in her career.
For context, Mitchell’s supermax deal with the Fever is reportedly worth $1.4 million for one year. It is currently unclear how long Griner’s new deal with the Sun is.
