Broncos defense asserting itself early in training camp

by

During the first two days of Denver Broncos training camp it seemed like both the offense and defense were getting their big plays in, but that seems to have shifted after the pads came on over the last two days. The defense has seemed to assert itself for now.

For example, in the teams first period the goal was either to get a first down or end in a three-and-out. The three-and-outs won in both the first team and second team attempts.

“I think the first group forced a three-and-out,” head coach Sean Payton explained today. “I have to look at the film on that last play to make sure, with the twos, whether they got a first down or not. We’re kind of simulating a fast start, on the field, trying to force a three-and-out, offensive trying to get your first down.”

The three-and-out issue was a regular annoyance last season too, so its good they are trying to get that early momentum in play over a quick punt. However, the defense is currently winning that battle after two days of padded practices. Hopefully that changes soon…
