Browns starting quarterback still a question mark: ‘We got two starting-level QBs’

The Cleveland quarterback conundrum continues.

The Browns have been holding practice over the last few weeks, still without a definitive answer on who will be the starting quarterback of the future.

“I think both quarterbacks have played well enough where we haven’t really been in pads. We haven’t played any games yet.” Moken said “Haven’t really got to that point yet. Every day I kind of lean one way or the other with quarterbacks. I just tell you, we got two starting level quarterbacks. We really do.”

Comments made on Wednesday by head coach Todd Monken did not help clarify the convoluted quarterback room, but that does appear to leave one quarterback on the outside looking in.

Second-year quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who was the starter to begin last season, may have fallen out of favor already with new coach Todd Monken.

Monken immediately met with and praised Sanders when getting the head coaching job in Cleveland, while Watson has reportedly been the apple of the team’s eye during the offseason and may even have the inside track on the job at least initially.

But a recent trade the Browns made might hint at who is in the lead for the job. The Browns made a blockbuster trade, sending 2025 Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garret to the Rams for Jared Verse and multiple draft picks.

Verse arrived at Brown’s practice and immediately donned the number 8, which was held by Dillion Gabriel. It seems that, for now, both players will wear 8 at OTAs, but in the regular season, only one player can wear the number.
