District One Class 6A, Championship:

No. 4 North Penn vs. No. 2 Downingtown West

How North Penn, Downingtown West got to the District One Class 6A championship game:

  • North Penn went 8-2 in the regular season, losing to Central Bucks South and Central Bucks West. In the district playoffs, the Knights knocked off No. 13 Ridley and No. 5 Haverford in the first two rounds. Last week, they upset top-seeded CB South in the semifinals.

  • Downingtown West went 9-1 in the regular season, losing only to Bishop Shanahan. In the district playoffs, the Whippets defeated No. 15 Coatesville and No. 7 Owen J. Roberts in the first two rounds. Last week, they topped No. 3 CB West 28-23.

Who are North Penn’s top players?

  • Junior running back Matt Pownall has rushed for 830 yards and two touchdowns, and has caught 30 passes for 563 yards with five touchdowns.

  • Senior linebacker Christian Johns-Wallace has 90 tackles, and Cole D’Ambrosio has 85, to anchor a Knights’ defense that has allowed more than 21 points just once all season.

  • Junior quarterback Matt Bucksar has thrown for 1,620 yards and rushed for 420 yards.

  • Senior tight end Aidan Eves has 390 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

  • Junior receiver Mason Franek has 310 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

  • Senior running back Josiah Coleman has rushed for 730 yards and seven touchdowns.

Who are Downingtown West’s top players?

  • Junior quarterback Cole Bricker has thrown for 1,416 yards with 22 touchdown passes and only four interceptions.

  • Running back Spencer Dunn has 701 yards and four touchdowns on 136 carries

  • Running back Tommy Miller has rushed for 536 yards, averaging 7 yards per carry, and scored six touchdowns.

  • Wide receiver JD Weller has nine receiving touchdowns

  • Downingtown West has allowed 13.10 points per game; they have allowed 10 or fewer points five times, including one shutout.

What’s next for North Penn and Downingtown West?

The winner of Friday’s district semifinal will advance to the PIAA Class semifinals to play the winner of St. Joe’s Prep/Parkland on Nov. 29. The losing team’s season will come to a close.
