Sophie Cunningham‘s controversial stance on transgender athletes competing with biologically female athletes has ruffled a lot of feathers in the sporting world.
Her teammate, Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, shared her perspective on the topic following Sunday’s 108-100 road loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

Speaking after Sunday’s defeat, Clark appeared to sidestep the question, saying the team had not made Cunningham’s comments on the transgender-athlete debate a major locker-room topic.
The Fever guard also noted that there is a proper forum for these matters and felt that the governing bodies and sports leagues should develop positive initiatives to address the issue. Clark insisted that the Fever are focused on securing better playoff seeding.
“I think for us, it’s not really a discussion we have in our locker room,” Clark said. “I think it’s for leagues and the governing bodies to work with their athletes to find solutions, but our focus was on basketball.”
The Fever standout did not elaborate on the issue and instead went straight to commenting on their loss to the league-leading Lynx (25-6), which she was not pleased with despite contributing a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists.

“That’s what we talk about, how we can get wins, and obviously we didn’t do that tonight,” Clark continued. “So, we need to find an area to improve.”
When the reporter tried to squeeze more of Clark’s reaction out of the controversy surrounding Cunningham, the 6-foot playmaker made a snide remark, saying, “I just answered for you.”

The Fever fought hard against the Lynx, but the home team had enough firepower to prevail. The loss dropped Indiana to second place in the Eastern Conference (19-11), behind the Angel Reese-led Atlanta Dream (18-10). Rookie sensation Olivia Miles led Minnesota’s offense with 28 points, spoiling Kelsey Mitchell‘s 37-point eruption for Indiana.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve, who wore a shirt that read, “Trans kids belong,” said the conversation focused on recognizing each other’s platforms and building on the issue to educate every stakeholder in the league.
“Both of us understand that we have platforms and we both talked about wanting to, more than anything, educate,” Reeve said.
