The WNBA preseason is set to begin this week, with the Indiana Fever facing off against the Washington Mystics on May 3.
While there’s plenty of excitement around the new-look Fever taking the floor, the regular season opener on May 17 carries the most anticipation—largely because Indiana will be opening against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, last season’s top Rookie of the Year finalists, have played a major role in transforming the visibility and viewership of women’s basketball. Their 3 p.m. ET showdown at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis is expected to draw extraordinary attendance, as the game has reportedly already sold out—marking just the third sellout in Indiana Fever history.
Ahead of the season opener, the Fever had their star players share what they want fans to know about this year’s team. Caitlin Clark delivered a strong message about the Indiana squad after last year’s first-round postseason elimination.
“I think that we play basketball the right way,” Clark said. “We love playing in front of our fans. We’re building a championship-winning team. We’re excited about it, we’re excited about all the pieces we’ve added, a great coaching staff, and we’re fired up and working hard. I think we play basketball the right way and give our fans a lot to cheer about. Also, we love our teammates and work really hard.”
Training camp for every WNBA team kicked off toward the end of last week, and the Indiana Fever are currently carrying 15 players on their roster. They’ll need to trim this down to at least 12 before the start of the regular season.

The Fever’s offseason has been incredibly busy, highlighted by the hiring of new head coach Stephanie White. Indiana also made several key free-agent acquisitions, adding veterans DeWanna Bonner, Sophie Cunningham, Natasha Howard, Brianna Turner, and Sydney Colson to strengthen the roster around Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston.
