Caitlin Clark updates injury, possible Indiana Fever return timeline

by

After missing the past three games with a strained quadriceps muscle, Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark shared some insight on her injury and how she has been rehabbing over the past week with her return to the court looming.

Clark suffered the injury during the Fever’s May 24 loss against the New York Liberty, in which she scored 18 points on 6-of-18 from the field, along with 4-of-5 from the free-throw line in 38 minutes of action.

In her media availability on Thursday, Clark clarified the situation but did not specify when exactly the injury occurred in the team’s 90-88 loss to the Liberty.

With the Fever’s Saturday matchup vs. the Chicago Sky from the United Center in Chicago serving as the final of the four-game injury timeline initially provided by Indiana, Clark could be available for the team’s June 10 clash against the Atlanta Dream. Of course, her availability will be determined by the team doctors following her re-evaluation.

“I’ll miss this weekend’s game [Saturday against the Chicago Sky], but after that, it’s day-by-day and see how I feel, and just turn to the medical staff and what they think,” Clark said.

“I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress and I feel good, and I’m not going to rush coming back. It’s just not worth it. But after this weekend, I’ll be reevaluated and we’ll have a better idea of when I’ll return. We’ll see. We’re trying not to put an exact date out there, because it is kind of a day-by-day thing and see how I feel. It’s the type of injury like, you don’t know, when I wake up, I’ll feel different than the day before. We’ll see. It could be a possibility, but I could also not be available for that game, too.”

If Clark is unavailable for Indiana’s Tuesday game against the Dream, her next opportunity will ironically come against the New York Liberty on June 14 from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
