Caitlin Clark will not be taking part in a special 3-point shootout during NBA All-Star weekend, reports ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Sports Business Journal reported Tuesday that Clark was “disinclined” to participate in a 3-point contest that reportedly could involve Sabrina Ionescu, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Last year, Ionescu joined Curry for an inaugural WNBA vs. NBA 3-point challenge, which the Warriors star narrowly won.
Clark “wants her first three-point contest to be at WNBA All-Star in Indianapolis this summer,” according to her representatives at Excel Sports, per Sharania. Indianapolis will host WNBA All-Star weekend in July.
Last year, Clark did not participate in the WNBA’s 3-point competition, but was part of the WNBA All-Star team that upset Team USA in Phoenix.
It’s been a busy year and a half for Clark between her final college season and first pro season with the Indiana Fever, and she clearly wanted a break from basketball. She declined to participate in the new 3×3 league Unrivaled, currently running in Miami with more than 30 other WNBA stars.
But that doesn’t mean Clark has kept a totally low profile. Since the Fever’s season ended in the first round of the WNBA playoffs, Clark has participated in a pro-am golf tournament and joined Taylor Swift to watch a Kansas City Chiefs playoff game. On Sunday, she’ll be back in Iowa City to have her jersey retired.
