The Indiana Fever‘s win over the Washington Mystics on Monday might prove to be a turning point.

Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 19 points and sank the game-winning 3-pointer as the Fever — despite blowing a 17-point lead — fended off the Mystics for a 78-76 win in Washington D.C.

The win improved Indiana’s record to 6-5 — and ESPN’s latest power ranking had moved up the Fever from 11th to eighth.

Indiana’s 2-1 start to June has been propelled by Clark and her fellow All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell — who is on track to break her own franchise record for scoring in a season.

Mitchell scored a combined 46 points in a win over the Atlanta Dream and a loss to the New York Liberty before she scored “only” 15 in the win at Washington.

Mitchell now is averaging 20.5 points per game this season, greater than the 20.2 average she accrued in 2025.

Perhaps most crucially though, Indiana has moved up to fourth in the WNBA in defensive efficiency, putting to rest early concerns that the Fever’s defense would rank toward the bottom of the league in points allowed per 100 possessions.
