The Indiana Fever opened the 2025 WNBA season with a 35-point win over Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky, and many expected the team to take the next step after finishing 20-20 in Caitlin Clark’s rookie year.

That’s not to say they won’t, but they followed it up by splitting back-to-back games with the Atlanta Dream to move to 2-1. Then came a matchup with the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty. The Fever lost a close one, 90-88, and Clark suffered what turned out to be a left quadriceps strain.

With Clark out for at least two weeks, the team struggled in its first two games without her, dropping to 2-4 after losses to the Washington Mystics and head coach Stephanie White’s former team, the Connecticut Sun.

The Fever are fourth in the Eastern Conference and ninth overall, and fans haven’t been thrilled. Even without their MVP-caliber star in the lineup, some fans have already started calling for White to be fired.

“Fire Stephanie White. How the (expletive) does she run a worse offense then Christie Sides?” a fan said.

“Stephanie white needs to be fired already,” another wrote.

“Fire Stephanie White,” another added.

“Fire Stephanie White you fools @IndianaFever,” said a fan.

“you’re so embarrassing, fire stephanie white, my good!” wrote one.

“The Indiana Fever need to fire Stephanie White before wasting this season,” a fan said. “Stephanie White does not even have the Fever prepared to play. The Fever are going to lose every game until Caitlin Clark returns from injury. She is proving that Caitlin Clark is the league’s MVP.”

White was hired this offseason after the Fever parted ways with former head coach Christie Sides, who led Indiana for two seasons. But Fever president of basketball operations Kelly Krauskopf wanted someone who could help the team contend for championships.

“Stephanie is a part of the fabric of this franchise, both as a former player and as a member of our championship coaching staff, so I’m quite familiar with her elite basketball IQ and leadership style,” Krauskopf said when the team hired White. “I am confident there is no one who better understands our culture or is more equipped to lead our group of players to the next level.”
