Canadian international swimmer Raben Dommann on Tuesday announced that he is recovering from a stroke.

Dommann disclosed that he suffered a stroke in his left frontal lob on Jan. 31 caused by a congenital heart defect. He is scheduled to have a surgical procedure to repair that heart issue.

He expressed his gratitude on social media to Swimming Canada and others for their continued support.

Dommann is a native of North Vancouver. He swam at the University of British Columbia from 2019-23 and trained at the High Performance Center in Vancouver based at UBC.

He represented Canada at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships, where he made the semifinals of the 200 backstroke and also swam in prelims of the 200 butterfly. He won two bronze medals for prelims swims at the 2023 Pan Am Games in the 800 free relay and 400 medley relay. He was eighth in the 200 back at the meet in Santiago, Chile

At Olympic Trials in 2024, Dommann finished 14th in the 200 free.
