During halftime of the Alabama basketball vs Robert Morris NCAA Tournament first-round game, Alabama State caught a stray from Charles Barkley.
Barkley, an Auburn basketball legend and NBA Hall of Fame member, called out the Alabama State Hornets mascot in a game the truTV halftime show crew was playing matching logos to the correct college basketball program.
Barkley knew the logo when it came up. But he was not impressed.
“That’s a little wimpy hornet, not going to lie,” Barkley said.
Auburn, where Barkley went to school, is 55 miles from Montgomery, the home of Alabama State.
ASU won its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, beating Saint Francis on a last-second basket Tuesday in the First Four. The Hornets lost to Auburn 83-63 in the round of 64 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky, on Thursday.
