The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky are set to headline the WNBA’s opening weekend on May 17. Kicking off their respective 2025 campaigns, Indiana and Chicago will face off for the first of five regular season meetings.
Indiana won its 2024 season series with Chicago 3-1, with All-Star rookie Caitlin Clark averaging 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 10.0 assists. While Clark and the Fever got the better of those matchups, Sky forward Angel Reese also performed well. In four games against Indiana last season, Reese averaged 13.5 points and 13.3 rebounds.

Dealing with a left leg injury that cost her Indiana’s preseason opener against Washington Mystics, Clark has been managing the ailment ahead of the WNBA regular season. Speaking with reporters on Friday, Clark said she feels good and expects to play in Saturday’s preseason finale against the Atlanta Dream (via Chloe Peterson of IndyStar).
The Fever made it official via their injury report that Clark will play against Atlanta, which means barring an unexpected setback, she is expected to be cleared for the season opener against Reese and Chicago.
Had Clark been ruled out for the preseason finale, there would have been reasonable questions about her status for the regular season opener. Her availability against Atlanta is great news for WNBA fans looking forward to another highly-anticipated battle between Clark and Reese.
