Now, the team sits at 1-4 in the early going, which brings them out of last place in the Eastern Conference Standings. They are now one game ahead of the Connecticut Sun and just a game behind the Indiana Fever.

Thursday’s victory was led by second-year forward Kamilla Cardoso, who chipped in a career-high 23 points. Veteran guard Ariel Atkins scored 17 as well, and Courtney Vandersloot added 13 points, which made her the Sky’s all-time leading scorer.

Despite being 36 years old, the 15-year WNBA veteran is playing some of her best basketball for Chicago this season. Through five games, she is averaging 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on 44.2% shooting from the floor.

Vandersloot’s 13-point, 9-assist, 5-steal display in the win against the Wings was just the latest of her great performances in the first month of the 2025 WNBA season. On Friday, the Sky announced that Vandersloot was the team’s Player of the Month for May.

“WHAT A MONTH FOR SLOOTY 🔥,” the team wrote.

In 2021, Vandersloot was a key catalyst for Chicago when they won the WNBA Finals. She averaged 10.5 points and 8.6 assists, which earned her All-Star honors and a spot on the All-WNBA Second-Team that year.

Now, she is back with the Sky as a mentor for young players like Hailey Van Lith, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso after winning another WNBA championship with the New York Liberty in 2024.
