Angel Reese‘s time with the Chicago Sky is officially over. On Monday, the team sent her to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for two first-round picks in 2027 and 2028.
As part of the deal, the Dream also received the rights to swap second-round picks with the Sky in 2028.

Reese had expressed her frustrations with the Sky in the past, especially with the team’s failure to post a winning season. In her two years with Chicago, the franchise never made the playoffs and failed to win more than 12 games in each of those seasons.
Still, there were expectations that Reese would be part of the Sky’s long-term future as a cornerstone player alongside star center Kamilla Cardoso. Chicago took both players in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft.

The 23-year-old Reese was certainly hyped to join a new team, though. After news of her trade broke, she posted an edited photo of her in a Dream jersey on social media.

“An Angel’s DREAM,” Reese wrote in the caption of her post. “ATL WHAT UP?!”
As the sports world congratulated Reese and expressed how hyped they are for her, one comment stood out. Cardoso made sure to show her support for her now-former teammate.
“twin tower always & forever! Go be great 5,” Cardoso stated on Instagram.
Cardoso and Reese led the Sky in both scoring and rebounding last season. The former averaged 13.6 points and 8.5 rebounds, while the latter put up 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds. They were on track to becoming a really dangerous frontcourt tandem, but it’s clear Chicago wanted to move in a different direction.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the Sky build around Cardoso and how they will utilize the picks they acquired from the Dream.
As for the upcoming 2026 season, the Sky will face Reese and the Dream for the first time on June 9 in Chicago. After that, Cardoso and company will visit Atlanta twice, on July 19 and Sept. 19.
