Chicago to retire Candace Parker’s jersey number

Former Tennessee women’s basketball player Candace Parker will become the second player to have her jersey retired by two WNBA franchises. She will join Lindsay Whalen who had her jersey retired by Connecticut and Minnesota.

Chicago is slated to retire Parker’s No. 3 jersey on Aug. 25 during the Sky’s game against Las Vegas.

Los Angeles retired Parker’s No. 3 jersey at halftime of its, 92-85, loss to Chicago on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

She also played for the Sky and Aces, leading all three organizations to WNBA championships.

Parker played in the WNBA from 2008-23. She was selected No. 1 overall in the 2008 WNBA draft by Los Angeles. Parker was a 2008 WNBA Rookie of the Year, seven-time WNBA All-Star, league MVP during her rookie season and named WNBA MVP in 2013.

Parker was a seven-time First-Team All-WNBA player and WNBA Finals MVP in 2016.

The two-time Olympic gold medalist played at Tennessee from 2006-08 under head coach Pat Summitt. She led Tennessee to consecutive national championships in 2007-08. Her jersey No. 3 is retired by Tennessee.
