Chmielewski Brothers Win Twice Each as USC Handles UNLV
The Chmielewski brothers won two events each as USC handled UNLV, 159-94, Friday night in a rare men’s only dual meet.
The Polish internationals led the way at Uytengsu Aquatic Center in Los Angeles. Michal Chmielewski went 47.18 to win the 100 backstroke, then clocked the fastest time in the 100 butterfly at 46.21. The latter is the stroke he swam on the Trojans’ winning 200 medley relay.
Krzysztof Chmielewski won the 200 fly in 1:42.07. and his time of 4:22.05 was quickest in the 500 freestyle, helping USC win all 14 events in a meet that didn’t feature diving competition.
Michal Chmielewski combined with Griffin O’Leary, Chris O’Grady and Diggory Dillingham to win the medley relay in 1:25.82. O’Leary won the 200 back after finishing third in the 100. O’Grady was third in the 200 breast.
Luke Maurer was the freestyle standout for USC. He won the 200 free in 1:34.00 and went 43.02 to claim the 100. In between, he finished third in the 50. The latter was won by Artem Selin in 19.48, the German international also second in the 100 free. Dillingham was second in the 50.
Thomas Olsen won the 1,000 free in 9:20.21. Chun Ho Chan bested teammate Ben Dillard by four tenths to win the 100 breast in 52.08. Dillard returned the favor by .18 in the 200 to win with a time of 1:54.20. Sanberk Yigit Oktar went from third in the 200 free to the fastest time in the 200 individual medley. The quartet of Oliver Sogaard-Andersen (second in the 200 free), Dillard, Dillingham and Maurer went 2:54.07 for the quickest time int eh 400 free relay.
UNLV picked up four runner-up results: Caleb Manning in the 1,000 free, Wikus Potgieter in the 200 back, Andrew Navarro in the 500 free and Cooper Kiel in the 200 IM.
