Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell adds fifth transfer portal player for 2025

by

CLEMSON — Clemson basketball landed its fifth transfer portal player in 2025 with the commitment of Utah forward Jake Wahlin on April 14.

Wahlin averaged 6.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 33 games with 23 starts as a sophomore with Utah. He has two years of eligibility remaining and is Clemson’s fifth transfer portal addition in 2025, joining guard Efrem “Butta” Johnson and forwards Nick Davidson, Carter Welling and RJ Godfrey.

Wahlin, a 6-foot-10 forward, shot 35.1% from 3-point range and made 27 threes during the 2024-25 season after attempting only 11 in his freshman season. Wahlin became a starter as a sophomore. He will be a candidate to provide frontcourt depth behind Davidson, Welling and potentially Godfrey.

With Wahlin’s commitment, Clemson has two scholarship roster spots to fill to reach the current max of 13. If the pending House settlement passes in April, college basketball rosters will expand to 15.

Wahlin joins Johnson, Godfrey, Welling, Davidson, Dillon Hunter, redshirt freshmen forward Dallas Thomas and guard Ace Buckner and three incoming freshmen: guard Zac Foster and forwards Chase Thompson and Trent Steinour on Clemson’s 2025-26 roster.

Clemson lost key contributors to expiring eligibility, including guard Chase Hunter and forward Ian Schieffelin, and to the portal, like forward Chauncey Wiggins and guard Del Jones.

Clemson will look to reach the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season for the first time since 2007-08 through 2009-10.
