Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders met with class of 2026 linebacker Tyler Atkinson via video call, the five-star recruit (per Rivals) shared Sunday.
Atkinson is a highly-touted linebacker who recently closed an impressive junior season at Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, recording 166 total tackles, 32 TFLs and 13 sacks. Most recruiting sites list Atkinson as the top-ranked linebacker in his class and also predict him to commit to the Georgia Bulldogs. Both On3 and the 247Sports composite bill Atkinson as a top-10 overall prospect for 2026.
The Buffaloes have a shaky future at linebacker, as last season’s dynamic duo of LaVonta Bentley and Nikhai Hill-Green are now gone. CU also just missed out on four-star class of 2025 linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, who signed with the Michigan Wolverines in December.
Atkinson is being pursued by nearly every prominent program in the nation, including the Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns. Colorado snagging the five-star won’t come easy, but Coach Prime has surprised many in the recruiting game before.
