Jan. 7—MIDLAND — Midland College head men’s basketball coach Tra Arnold will be temporarily stepping away from basketball, a press release from the college said on Tuesday.

The release said that Arnold ‘has decided to temporarily step away from basketball to focus on his health and spend time with his family.”

Arnold, who is a former Odessa College men’s basketball coach, was not at Monday’s game between the Wranglers and the Chaparrals at the OC Sports Center.

In the release, Midland College president Damon Kennedy said that “Midland College fully supports coach Arnold. We will continue to encourage our staff and faculty to prioritize their health.”

Assistant coaches Isaac Fontenot-Amedee and Stanimir Zivulj will take over practices and games for the Chaparrals during Arnold’s absence.

No other information was given in the press release including how long the absence would last.

Arnold was the Wranglers’ head coach from 2012-18.

He was named the Midland College head men’s basketball coach in June, 2022.
