After winning a tight contest on Saturday Afternoon, the Colorado Rockies find themselves with an opportunity. They can win the series against their fellow National League West and 1990s expansion team Arizona Diamondbacks in their first matchup of the 2026 season.

On the mound for the Rockies is the right-handed Michael Lorenzen making his tenth start of the season. Lorenzen has been quite inconsistent so far this season. While he has gone at least five innings in each of his last five starts, he has also given up a lot of contact and carries a 6.55 ERA through 44 innings with 31 strikeouts. While his lower FIP suggests some degree of bad luck, he currently leads the league in hits and earned runs allowed. Lorenzen has also walked at least two batters in each of his hast three starts. He has just one Quality Start so far this season.

His last time out, Lorenzen allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks over five innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates while striking out five batters.

Canadian righty Michael Soroka will be making the start for the Snakes. Soroka has a 3.53 ERA over eight starts so far this season with 47 strikeouts over 43.1 innings of work. He enters today’s contest coming off of back-to-back Quality Starts in his last two outings, including 6.1 scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers.

Surprisingly, Soroka has just two appearances and one start against the Rockies. He has also never faced off against them at Coors Field. In ten innings he has tallied 15 strikeouts against Rockies batters with five runs (three earned) allowed.

This season Soroka is running a five pitch mix. His primary offering is a four-seam fastball in the low-to-mid 90s. He backs that up with a slurve as his best pitch for inducing whiffs, and he also throws a cutter, a changeup, and a sinker.
