NEW ORLEANS — Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz was ruled out after suffering a concussion in the second quarter against the New Orleans Saints after making a one-handed grab in the red zone Sunday.
Ertz made a one-handed grab at the 10-yard line but hit his head on the ground when tackled at the 3. After being helped to the sidelines Ertz was evaluated for a concussion then later ruled out.
Ertz is Washington’s second leading pass catcher, with 54 receptions and four touchdowns. Washington also has John Bates, who is more of a run blocker, and rookie Ben Sinnott. Those two have combined for 10 catches.
Ertz’s grab on third-and-3 set up Washington’s second touchdown of the game to help it take 14-0 halftime lead over the Saints.
Washington’s offense already was without starting center Tyler Biadasz, who was inactive because of an illness, and receiver Noah Brown, who was placed on injured reserve Saturday after injuring his kidney.
