Connor Zilisch passed Taylor Gray for the lead with two laps to go to win the Pennzoil 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race on July 26 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Zilisch earned his third consecutive win and the 100th victory all-time for JR Motorsports.
Zilisch and Gray were the beneficiaries of a messy restart between Justin Allgaier, Kyle Larson and Brandon Jones at the front of the field with less than 15 laps to go. Allgaier and Larson went side-by-side through the first two turns, with Larson sliding up into Allgaier and into the wall, with Brandon Jones suffering damage after inadvertent contact with Allgaier.
Zilisch and Gray settled into first and second, with Gray stalking Zilisch’s tire tracks within a few car lengths.
A few laps later, Austin Hill got out of shape while battling Aric Almirola for position inside the top five and made contact with Almirola, sending both cars into the wall. Hill was penalized five laps for reckless driving.
After a short red flag, Gray took the lead on the final restart before Zilisch’s pass a couple laps later with drafting help by Sam Mayer.
