Cookeville girls wipe out early Lady Wildcat lead

GLADEVILLE — Wilson Central’s girls took the early lead over District 7-4A leading Cookeville on Tuesday night before the visiting Lady Cavaliers took control in the second quarter and claimed a 70-44 win.

The Lady Wildcats led 18-13 late in the first quarter as Kylie Moss scored seven points. But Cara Lee Gilbert kept Cookeville close with three 3-pointers during her 13-point first period as the Lady Cavs climbed to within 18-15 at the break.

Then Allie Gillies took over with 21 points in the second and third quarters. She penetrated for 10 second-period points as Cookeville went up 30-21 at halftime and dominated the third period 31-14 to lead 61-36.

Cookeville also controlled the glass 35-24 with 16 coming on the offensive end as the Lady Cavs climbed to 16-3 for the season and 5-0 in the district.

Gilbert finished with 19 points on 5-of-6 free-throw shooting and four triples while Charlie Roby added 11.

Brylee Fly led the Lady Wildcats with 16 points in the post, sinking 6 of 7 free throws, while Eliana Ramsey racked up 13 with seven rebounds, Moss nine points, Annie Wilson a 3, Brooklyn Evert two foul shots and Alexis Jackson one as Central slipped to 10-12, 2-3.

Wilson Central played at Lebanon last night. The Lady Wildcats will host Stewarts Creek at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Devilettes dominate LaVergneLAVERGNE — Lebanon dominated LaVergne in a 60-25 conquest Tuesday night.

The Devilettes were up 15-8 at the first-quarter break and 32-12 at halftime.

Maggie Kelley led Lebanon with 14 points inside while Tiara Spencer sank three 3-pointers on her way to 11 to go with four assists, four deflections and four steals. Tramaria Neal added eight points, Ashaunna Rowe seven, Samia Payne six on two 3s, Ellie Beth McDonald five, Keeli Davis four, Naleiya Withrow-Walker and Ro Dowell two each and Audrey Jones a free throw.

Dowell led Lebanon on the boards with six rebounds.

Azurenique Cistrunk sank two triples in leading LaVergne with 14 points.

Lebanon hosted Wilson Central last night and will entertain Smyrna at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.

Lady Tigers take control in third to beat WestmorelandWATERTOWN — Watertown captured a 43-35 win over Westmoreland on Tuesday night.

The teams were tied 12-12 following the first quarter. Both offenses struggles in the second quarter as Molly Followill’s 3-pointer was the only field goal and trumped the two free throws by Westmoreland’s Gentry Feeman as Watertown took a 15-14 edge into halftime.

The third quarter was when the Lady Tigers made their move as both offenses loosened up. Watertown took the third 16-11 for a 31-25 advantage.

Macie Brelje scored seven of her 13 points in the third quarter for Watertown. Followill finished with 12 points and Dailey Hight nine as each hit two triples. Julianna Pruitt put in five and Izzie Burns and Maggie Pearson two apiece.

Chloe Williams threw in two triples as she led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.

Watertown returned to District 5-2A action last night at York Institute. The Lady Tigers will host longtime rival Gordonsville at 6 p.m. Monday.

Lady Hawks stop Station Camp 60-47MT. JULIET — Three Lady Hawks scored in double figures Tuesday night as host Green Hill beat Station Camp 60-47.

Freshman post KT. Tolbert tossed in 10 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter as Green Hill held a 13-12 edge.

The Lady Hawks expanded the margin to 34-24 by halftime as point guard Sullie Gerik scored nine of her 15 during the second quarter. It was 49-37 through three periods.

Julia Varpness tossed in 10 points. Alyssa Potier put in a pair of 3-pointers on her way to eight while Willa Heilman had four, McKenna Solomon a 3 and McKinlee Stone two.

Ella Ohman scored 17 points and Kennedy Dean 16, each hitting a pair of 3s, for Station Camp.

Green Hill hosted Hendersonville last night and will go to city rival Mt. Juliet at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
