The Cowboys have never been shy about acquiring players coming off major injuries, and one of their latest attempts is CB Shavon Revel Jr. With a 2024 ACL injury now further in the rearview, Revel goes into his second season with high expectations as a key member of Dallas’ secondary.
Background
Years in NFL: 1
Acquired by: 2025 3rd-round pick

Revel was an ascending prospect at East Carolina, but saw his 2025 draft stock wrecked by the knee injury. In just three games, Revel already had two interceptions and was considered a potential first-round talent with his coverage skills, size, and athleticism. If Revel had been healthy, some thought he might be the second CB taken after Heisman winner Travis Hunter. But the injury kept him out of the combine and ECU’s Pro Day, leaving Revel as a small-school guy with limited collegiate tape and now a medical red flag.
Given that profile, it isn’t surprising that he landed with the Cowboys in the third round. Revel was a future-minded pick, extending his rehabilitation through the summer and into the regular season. He debuted in Week 11 against the Raiders and became a starter for the final five games of the year. Like most of Dallas’ 2025 defense, he graded poorly overall but still had flashes in coverage. After over a year away from football and having missed his rookie training camp, Revel’s struggles were no surprise.
Contract Status
Years Left: 3
2026 Cap Hit: $1.48 million

If Revel can be a full-time starter for the next three years, it’s a huge win for the Cowboys’ salary cap. It’s a great offset to DaRon Bland’s contract and Dallas’ rising costs at safety.
2026 Projections
Role: Starting CB
Roster Chance: 100%
Revel’s path to a starting role became clearer when veteran Trevon Diggs was waived in late December. The Cowboys signed Cobie Durant in free agency, he has versatility to play outside or in the slot and will battle Revel for regular-season reps. With high offseason praise from coaches, including his new defensive coordinator Christian Parker, Revel is on track to improve on his rookie season.

With his size and zone skills, Revel is a great fit for what Parker is expected to run in Dallas. He’s not a ballhawk like Bland or Diggs, more akin to former Cowboys CB Byron Jones in how he plays. But even if he doesn’t provide many turnovers, Revel can do wonders for this defense by stabilizing his side of the field.
Dallas’ cornerbacks were put in horrible spots last year by issues up front, but they had their own issues with inexperience and injuries. Now healthy and finally getting a full offseason, Revel has a great chance for dramatic improvement from last year. If that supposed first-round ability is there, he and newcomer Caleb Downs could become a powerhouse duo in the Cowboys’ secondary for years to come.
