The Dallas Cowboys need help at linebacker. This sentence rings as true today as it does when last season ended, as it did when legal tampering began, and as it did when the new league year officially began. While the Cowboys have made a number of changes across their roster, they have yet to add to the middle of Christian Parker’s defense.
As free agency was kicking off there were rumors that Dallas was interested in Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen. Obviously acquiring Queen would involve a trade, but this offseason has shown that the Cowboys are not unwilling to make a deal if they feel it interests them.

The Cowboys have their eyes on two linebackers
On Friday morning, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram shared his first mock draft of the season. Harris did not have the Cowboys taking a linebacker, and he specifically noted that he believes the team will address the position by way of the trade market before the draft.
Someone asked Harris about this specific detail in an exchange on X and he answered that the Cowboys seem to have moved off of the idea of Patrick Queen. What’s more is he added that the team is discussing Azeez Al-Shaair and Jordyn Brooks as potential options.
Al-Shaair plays for the nearby Houston Texans at the moment and is coming off of a Pro Bowl season with them. Brooks is a Texas player through and through as he played in the Lone Star State throughout both high school and college. He was initially drafted by the Seattle Seahawks before landing with the Miami Dolphins two years ago. He is also coming off of a Pro Bowl season and was notably a First-Team All-Pro last year as well.

As far as either option are concerned, Brooks may be easier to have given the rebuilding nature of the Dolphins as a franchise relative to the Texans. Either way, it seems like the Cowboys have their eyes on some options and intend on striking to help the linebacker spot before the draft so that they aren’t stuck in a situation where they have to reach on someone (like say Georgia’s CJ Allen).
Perhaps the Cowboys pull off a trade after the draft, though. Maybe this is a situation similar to George Pickens last year where they went into the draft eyeying Tetairoa McMillan and had to address the position after he didn’t make it to them.
How would you feel about either of these options?
