Dakota Wesleyan men open Williamson coaching era with road win at Buena Vista

Oct. 26—STORM LAKE, Iowa. — Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball tipped off the Kevin Williamson coaching era with a road win on Saturday.

Behind a 47-point first half, the Tigers built and protected a double-digit lead, earning an 83-67 non-conference win at Buena Vista University to open the 2024-25 season.

Tied at 19-all midway through the first half, DWU began to pull away on the way to a 47-29 lead at halftime. Early in the second half, the Tigers led by as many as 22 points.

Samuel Aslesen paced DWU with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Randy Rosenquist Jr added 16 points and three steals. Jakob Dobney and Tampa Scott IV scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, and Blaze Lubbers tacked on five points with a team-high 11 rebounds. The Tigers, who shot 60% as a team from the field in the contest, scored 24 bench points, led by eight from Ethan Determan.

For Buena Vista, Zane Neubaum tossed in a game-high 21 points with four rebounds, and Gunner Reed had 19 points and two blocks.

DWU (1-0) is back on the road for a trip to the University of Saint Mary (Kan.) on Saturday, Nov. 2, before opening up its home slate on Wednesday, Nov. 6, against Dakota State at the Corn Palace.
