After an impressive showing on Dana White’s Contender Series, Daniel Frunza has the opportunity to continue his momentum in the UFC.
At a UFC Fight Night event April 5 expected to take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Frunza (9-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will battle former Cage Warriors champion Rhys McKee (13-6-1 MMA, 0-4 UFC).
Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Eurosport NL first reported the welterweight fight Sunday.
Frunza entered his DWCS opportunity in September an underdog but wore down and then thrashed opponent Vadim Kutsyi en route to a second-round TKO stoppage. The win was his fifth in a row. Frunza has eight stoppages in nine pro wins.
While his domination on the regional scene has turned heads and earned him a Cage Warriors title, McKee seeks his first UFC win in his fifth attempt across two stints. He’s 0-2 in this stint in particular. But win or lose, McKee usually proves to be a gritty outing for any fighter.
