David Martinez had no hesitation accepting a matchup against Rob Font at UFC Fight Night 259.
Martinez (12-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) went from being booked against Carlos Vera, to Quang Le, to No. 9 ranked bantamweight Rob Font (22-8 MMA, 12-7 UFC) in Saturday’s Noche UFC (ESPN+) co-main event at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
“I and my team and my parents and my family take a decision to fight with Rob Font because I am ready for this,” Martinez told MMA Junkie Radio. “It’s a very long step to the division, but I am ready for this.”
Font is known for his crisp boxing, which has led to knockout wins over the likes of Adrian Yanez, Marlon Moraes, and Thomas Almeida. However, with a high finish rate himself, Martinez isn’t shying away from standing toe to toe with the veteran.
“Rob Font has striking of the first level, I know that,” Martinez said. “His boxing is very nice, but I have a career in kickboxing, fought high-level in kickboxing, and it’s not different. I’m ready for this Saturday. I am very aggressive, but of course I want to be smart in the fight. He has a lot of experience, and he’s a very aggressive fighter. I can do this by being smart and patient and aggressiveness.”
