Early Day 4 Highlights
The morning session has already produced significant results, with the Mixed Doubles Round of 16 completing to determine the quarterfinalists. Top seeds Lin Shidong and Kuai Man of China looked imperious in their 3-0 (11-2, 11-3, 11-6) demolition of Austria’s Robert Gardos and Sofia Polcanova, while fifth seeds Sora Matsushima and Miwa Harimoto of Japan overcame Egypt’s Youssef Abdelaziz and Mariam Alhodaby by the same scoreline (13-11, 11-5, 11-4).
In Women’s Singles, the upsets continue with France’s Charlotte Lutz building on her impressive form to eliminate 26th seed Jia Nan Yuan 4-1 (11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-7), while Korea Republic’s Park Gahyeon produced a flawless performance to sweep aside India’s Manika Batra 4-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-5, 11-8). Perhaps the biggest shock came when Chinese Taipei’s Huang Yu-Chiao, after eliminating the 23rd seed yesterday, claimed another scalp by defeating Singapore’s Zeng Jian in a seven-game thriller.
Rivalry Renewed As Duda And Aruna Clash Once More
The day’s featured Men’s Singles clash will see Germany’s Benedikt Duda face Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna at 16:00 (GMT+3). The last time these two met, Duda gained the upper hand with a 3-1 victory at WTT Champions Incheon 2025. Aruna’s last win against the German on the international stage came six years back.
Duda now aims to extend his winning streak to three matches, while Aruna, who made history in 2021 as the first African player to reach the Men’s Singles quarterfinals at the World Championships, is determined to flip the script.
Japanese Duo Advance Past Egyptian Challenge
The Japanese duo of Matsushima and Harimoto, who were pushed to the limit in their previous match, showed improved form today to overcome Egypt’s Abdelaziz and Alhodaby 3-0 (13-11, 11-5, 11-4). After narrowly avoiding an early upset in their Round of 32 clash against Ivor Ban and Hana Arapovic, the Japanese pair looked more assured in today’s performance to book their quarter-final place.
Kallberg’s Ambitions Put To The Test
Sweden’s Christina Kallberg, having reached the Round of 64, is now aiming to go one better by securing her place in the Round of 32 for the first time on the World Championships Finals stage. But standing in her way at 13:10 (GMT+3) is Korea Republic’s Kim Kum Yong, a player who has beaten the very best on her way to the ITTF-Asian Table Tennis Championships 2024 title.
Kallberg’s compatriot Linda Bergstrom failed in her attempt to reach the Round of 32, falling to the Czech Republic’s Hana Matelova 4-1 (11-6, 5-11, 11-9, 11-12, 11-10) in a match that showcased Matelova’s continued excellent form in Doha.
