One of the top point guard prospects for Kentucky Basketball is off the board, as Dedan Thomas made his commitment to the Houston Cougars on Saturday. Jonathan Givony broke the news first.
When the portal first opened this week, Thomas was among the first players the Wildcats reached out to following his lone season at LSU. They actually recruited Thomas last year when he was transferring from UNLV before eventually settling on Jaland Lowe.

This past season, Thomas appeared in 16 games, averaging 15.3 points (45.9% shooting but 30.2% on 3s), 6.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. A left foot injury ended his season prematurely and led to surgery that’s expected to sideline him into the summer.
While Thomas is a good player when healthy, taking another gamble on a point guard with injury concerns was a risk Mark Pope did not need to make.
Now, Kentucky will hope to land Washington point guard Zoom Diallo, who is wrapping up a visit to Lexington. The Cats are also recruiting BYU transfer Rob Wright, but may very well end up returning to the Cougars, so point guard options could be drying up fast.
The clock is ticking for Pope and Co.
