Deiveson Figueiredo hopes ‘new beginning’ at UFC Macau ends with 2nd title run

Deiveson Figueiredo is locked in and ready to make another run at a UFC title.

Figueiredo (25-6-1 MMA, 14-6-1 UFC), a former UFC champion at 125 pounds, hasn’t had the trajectory he hoped for since moving up to the bantamweight division. Although the Brazilian had some good wins, he’s also had several setbacks, going 4-3 – including 1-3 in his past four fights.

Figueiredo, now 38, hinted at cutting corners in his pursuit of a second belt, something he’s no longer doing to keep his hopes of becoming a double UFC champion alive.

“Definitely a lot of things change in my life, not only in my mind,” Figueiredo told MMA Junkie in Portuguese through an interpreter “I just need to do everything correctly. I’m a guy who used to step over the line and outside the line, and I just need to stay within the lines and do everything correctly and, like I said, make my way back to the title.”

Figueiredo returns this Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 277 (Paramount+) at Galaxy Macau in China. He takes on China’s Song Yadong (22-9-1 MMA, 11-4-1 UFC). Figueiredo is looking to bounce back from a decision loss to top contender Umar Nurmagomedov.

“It’s a new beginning right now,” Figueiredo said. “I need to do everything correctly right now and get back in the win column and keep making my way towards the belt.”

Figueiredo has had some injuries in the past, and in his last outing he missed weight. Some fans might question his health and commitment to the sport at this stage of his career, but “The God of War” assures he’s coming in with everything.

“For sure I feel 100 percent,” Figueiredo said. “My head is in the right place. I feel good, and everything is perfect actually. I’m going to be able to show my best version on Saturday.”
