Deiveson Figueiredo is keeping positive following his most recent career setback.
The former UFC flyweight champion got injured and suffered a TKO defeat to Cory Sandhagen in the main event of UFC on ESPN 67, which took place Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Being in a 50/50 leg lock position in Round 2, Figueiredo injured his left knee and immediately waived for the fight to be stopped. There’s no diagnosis or further details on the extent of his injury.
On Saturday night, following the fight, Figueiredo took to Instagram to address his defeat.
“The result is not always what we want, but the fight goes on,” Figueiredo wrote in Portuguese. “Thank you from the heart to God, my family, my team and all of you who cheer, support and believe in me. We will come back stronger. I’m a warrior and this is just another chapter of my story!”
With the result, Figueiredo finds himself on a two-fight skid. He lost a unanimous decision to Petr Yan this past November. It’s the first time in his career the Brazilian has had consecutive defeats. Prior to the pair of setbacks, Figueiredo, 37, was on a three-fight wining streak in the start to his bantamweight run after moving up from flyweight.
