The Memphis Grizzlies visit the Houston Rockets on Sunday, April 12, at the Toyota Center in a Western Conference clash shaped heavily by availability concerns on both sides. Houston enters at 51-30, sitting 5th in the Western Conference, while Memphis holds a 12th-place position at 25-56 and is officially eliminated from playoff contention.

The season series has leaned entirely in Houston’s favor, with the Rockets winning all three meetings so far.

Memphis’ injury report is extensive and includes multiple rotation and developmental players unavailable. Santi Aldama, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Brandon Clarke, Cedric Coward, Zach Edey, Taylor Hendricks, GG Jackson, Ty Jerome, Ja Morant, Scotty Pippen Jr., Cam Spencer, and Jaylen Wells are all out.

That leaves the Grizzlies short on shot creation, size, and perimeter stability. Morant’s absence is the biggest hit because he leads the team with 19.5 points and 8.1 assists per game, while Edey’s absence removes a 13.6-point, 11.1-rebound presence in the paint.

Memphis does have a few late-status names to monitor. Adama Bal is questionable with a right ankle sprain, Walter Clayton Jr. is questionable with a left hip impingement, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper is questionable with a right ankle sprain.

Javon Small is probable with a left thigh contusion, giving the Grizzlies at least one backcourt option. Jahmai Mashack is available despite a nasal fracture and will likely continue wearing a face mask.

Houston’s report is cleaner in one sense, but it still removes several key names from the regular rotation. Steven Adams is out after left ankle surgery, while Fred VanVleet is out with a right knee ACL repair.

The Rockets are also resting three major pieces in Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith Jr., and Amen Thompson. That sharply changes the expected offensive load, even though those players have been central to Houston’s 51-win season.

Memphis is coming off back-to-back losses, including a 147-101 defeat to Utah and a 136-119 loss at Denver. Houston also lost its most recent game, a 136-132 defeat against Minnesota, after beating Philadelphia 113-102 the night before.
