Devils’ Seamus Casey Hit the Ice for NHLPA Rookie Showcase

by

On Wednesday, one of the New Jersey Devils‘ top prospects hit the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia, for the NHLPA Rookie Showcase.

Seamus Casey, 20, joined some of the NHL’s most anticipated up-and-coming players, including Macklin Celebrini (San Jose Sharks) and Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim Ducks).

The event’s primary purpose is to obtain photos and videos of the players in their respective NHL team jerseys. These will be used for their first official rookie hockey cards and additional promotional materials throughout the season.

The defenseman was wearing a Devils jersey with the number 24 and a helmet with 72, which was the number he wore at the team’s 2024 Development Camp.

Casey signed his entry-level contract with the Devils on May 6 after completing his second season at the University of Michigan. He was drafted by New Jersey 46th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

During development camp, Casey spoke about taking the next step in his hockey career and continuing his path to the NHL.

“It’s hard to make an NHL team, and the Devils are doing a great job of acquiring guys, drafting well, and signing guys, and it’s exciting to be a part of it all,” he said. “I just want to do my best to get a chance to make the team and, if not, wherever they think is best for me, I’m ready.”

Casey is expected to participate in the 2024 Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, New York, from Friday, Sept. 13 to Monday, Sept. 16. He will be joined by Topias Vilen, Josh Filmon, Chase Stillman, and Cam Squires.

The organization announced that the tournament will be live-streamed on the team’s website and social channels. Devils Radio Network play-by-play broadcaster Matt Loughlin and color analyst Sam Kasan will provide commentary.
