DeWitt’s Traverse Moore, left, avoids a tackle attempt by East Lansing’s Anthony Green during the first quarter on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at East Lansing High School.
Traverse Moore received plenty of college football interest both for his abilities carrying the ball as well as his play on defense in the secondary.
But the DeWitt junior really enjoys making things happen with the ball in his hands as a running back.
Moore will have an opportunity to keep doing that at the next level after making a verbal commitment last weekend to the Central Michigan football program and its first-year coach Matt Drinkall.

“I just enjoy being able to run the ball,” said Moore, who has 33 rushing touchdowns over the last two seasons for DeWitt. “I enjoy contact and being able to run through people. I enjoy it.”
Those aspects are why the 6-foot Moore, who ran for 1,012 yards and 16 touchdowns as part of the high-powered DeWitt offensive attack in the fall, sees a strong fit with CMU. Drinkall most recently served as the offensive line coach for Army, which used a power-rushing attack to rank among the nation’s top rushing teams.
Drinkall’s background from the six seasons he spent in multiple capacities at Army also had big appeal.
“(It’s) definitely that mentality piece,” Moore said. “When we first met, my first question for him was what’s the biggest thing that you took from being at Army and he said just that mentality piece, that grit that comes with coaching at Army and being a player at Army. Just that mentality piece that Coach Drinkall and the whole coaching staff at Central brings to the game of football and just life outside of football really attracted me.”
Moore, who is rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports, also had offers from programs like Toledo, Yale, Fordham, Cornell, Princeton and Pennsylvania. But Moore is thrilled to continue his football career close to home and said reaching his decision ahead of his senior year is a big relief.

“(It’s) just a relief that it brings knowing that I’m going to a special place, a place where people really care about me not only as a football player but as a person,” Moore said. “It’s just a big weight lifted off my shoulder for sure being able to go to my senior season knowing that I’m going to a place that has big things coming.”
