When Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi retired after the 2024 season, she had firmly established herself as the greatest player in WNBA history. To this day, she still holds the all-time scoring record with 10,646 points, and no active player comes close to breaking that tally.
Taurasi, a three-time champion, two-time Finals MVP and one-time WNBA MVP, is also fourth in assists in league history. Outside the WNBA, Taurasi became the first basketball player to win six gold medals when Team USA won gold at Paris 2024.

On Sunday, however, Taurasi lost one of her incredible WNBA records to Las Vegas Aces superstar A’ja Wilson.

Wilson recorded 30 points, 15 rebounds, one assist, four steals and three blocks to lead Las Vegas to a 107-99 win over the Chicago Sky.
Not only did Wilson become the first player in WNBA history to have at least 30 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in a game, but she also surpassed Taurasi for the most 20-point halves ever.

Wilson exploded in the second half of Sunday’s victory, scoring 20 points on 4-of-7 shooting. She also made 11 of her 17 free-throw attempts during that span.
The Aces center now has 30 20-point halves in her WNBA career, breaking a tie with Taurasi who had 29.
“A’ja Wilson passed Diana Taurasi in 20+ PTS halves,” the WNBA wrote on Instagram. “With 20 points in the 2H of the @lvaces dub, A’ja Wilson (30x) passed Diana Taurasi (29x) for the most 20+ PTS halves in WNBA history!”

Considering how dominant Wilson has been throughout her career, it’s not hard to imagine her adding more to her 20-point-half record.
Wilson is still outside the top 10 in scoring, but at 29 years old and with plenty of years left in her career, she is emerging as a legitimate threat to break Taurasi’s scoring record.
