The one place where Michigan football should have a top position group in college football is something to do with the run game — whether it be the running back position or the offensive line. However, when one outlet put out their top running backs rooms, the Wolverines were nowhere to be found.
CBS Sports’ Blake Brockmeyer analyzed the top 10 running back units across the country, and the maize and blue were a notable omission. Here is his top 10:

Last year, despite both starters — Justice Haynes and Jordan Marshall — being oft-injured, the Wolverines finished with the No. 14 rushing attack — ahead of all of the aforementioned schools save for Missouri. Marshall returns, and is expected to be healthy, and he pairs with former five-star Savion Hiter and intermittent starter Bryson Kuzdzal. What’s more, they’ll be playing in a run-first offense led by offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who has had the No. 2 rushing attack in the country for two straight seasons at two different schools.
Though this was a running back ranking, and quarterback Bryce Underwood is expected to get his fair share of carries, the trio of tailbacks expected to carry the ball should, at the very least, rank among the top 10 in the country. Though Kuzdzal wasn’t a ranked recruit, Marshall was ranked No. 53 overall according to Rivals, and the No. 2 running back in the country as a high school prospect. With Hiter being ranked as the No. 1 tailback in 2026, that’s a formidable duo, even if Hiter is inexperienced.
Perhaps CBS Sports and Brockmeyer had a bit of oversight in not including the Wolverines in their list, but one thing is for certain: Michigan football fans wouldn’t trade their running back room for any other in the country — especially not 10 others.
