Diego Lopes issues statement reflecting on UFC 325 title bout loss

by

Diego Lopes has released a statement following his title rematch loss to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 325 in Sydney.

Lopes (27-8 MMA, 6-3 UFC) took home part of the Fight of the Night bonus for going the distance in an entertaining bout against Volkanovski (28-4 MMA, 15-3 UFC), but he failed to take home the real prize, the UFC featherweight title for the second time.

To add to his woes, Lopes broke both of his feet during the course of battle.

Days after the loss, Lopes wrote a statement on Instagram reflecting upon what went down at Qudos Bank Arena:

“Well, there are certain things in life you just have to accept and move on from,” Lopes wrote. “We’ll keep working. It took a lot to get here. And we’re not going to stop. We’ll come back, dust ourselves off, and keep going. Every fight is different, every fight presents a different situation, especially when you’re facing one of the greatest of all time.

Could we have done more? Certainly, we’ll never be satisfied, because we’ll always have the feeling that we could have done more. But we didn’t fight alone. Just like you, there’s someone on the other side doing their job. We moved, we kicked, we took him down, we covered him, we try submitted him, we landed hard shots, we took him down again, we defended takedowns, we cut angles. But sometimes, even when you do it all, it’s not enough.

“I’m healthy, my family is healthy, my team is healthy. So we’re good. 🙌🏻”
