Drake women’s basketball dropped its fifth straight game on Saturday, Feb. 7, falling to Illinois State, 77-70.
The Bulldogs (6-17, 5-8 MVC) kept things tight for the most part, but went cold in crunch time and failed to hit a shot in the final 3:20 of the game to let the Redbirds hold on for a tight victory. Even though they couldn’t buy a bucket in the closing minutes of the game, Drake actually shot 51% from the field overall on the day. They struggled from long range, though, shooting just 3-for-17 from beyond the arc.

Four Drake players found their way into double-digit scoring, with Anna Becker leading the way with 15 points before she fouled out. Ava Hawthorne added 14 points while Maggie Taylor and Abbie Aalsma each posted 10. Taylor led the way on the boards with eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be looking to snap the losing streak when it hits the court again on Saturday, Feb. 14, against Indiana State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT at the Knapp Center in Des Moines.
