The Duke Blue Devils recently picked up a commitment from one of the most talented players in the transfer portal.
Duke finished the previous season with a 35-4 record, but have since lost a plethora of talent to the NBA draft. Cooper Flagg, Tyrese Proctor, Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach each declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

The good news for Jon Scheyer and the Duke coaching staff: Cedric Coward is heading to play for the Blue Devils next season.
Following his commitment, Coward spoke on his decision to transfer from Washington State to Duke.
“The whole starting five, they’re leaving,” Coward said. “So, how are they going to replace that? Then again, I looked at it from a perspective, you got Caleb Foster, me, the Boozer twins, Pat Ngongba, and Isaiah Evans. Like, we got killers on this team and the shortest guy is 6’4.”
Coward made it clear that although Duke will lose some of the top talent in the ACC, they are poised for another successful season.

“This is a team full of stars, and it’s a team full of guys that are killers and just want to do whatever it is that can help us win… Each guy has the potential and the ability to do anything on any given night.”
Last season at Washington State, Coward posted 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. That was his lone season with the Cougars, having also played at Eastern Washington for two seasons.

As Coward explained, the Duke Blue Devils, led by Jon Scheyer, shouldn’t skip a beat next season.
They may be losing key contributors from their Final Four run, but Duke has a few former blue-chip prospects, such as Caleb Foster, Isaiah Evans and Patrick Ngongba who should a massive jump in production.
