Our next entry in this series features Great Britain’s Duncan Scott, who has opted to focus on one individual event at this edition of the World Champs.

The Road to Singapore

At the British Trials, Scott qualified for the World Championships by claiming victory in the 200 individual medley and 200 butterfly. However, Scott has opted to bypass the 200 fly in Singapore. In the 200 IM, the veteran sits fifth in the world rankings, thanks to his 1:56.44 mark at the British Champs.

Scott also had the opportunity to contest the 200 freestyle at Worlds, following a tie for first place in the event at Trials with James Guy. In Singapore, though, it will be Guy who competes in the 200 free, as Scott has decided to place his emphasis on the 200 medley and the considerable relay duty he’s expected to see.

Top Career Achievement

Scott is a member of Great Britain’s 800 freestyle relay that won back-to-back Olympic gold medals at the Tokyo and Paris Games. He was joined on those squads by James Guy, Tom Dean and Matt Richards. Individually, Scott owns a pair of Olympic silver medals in the 200 medley and a silver medal in the 200 freestyle.

Previous World Champs Hardware

Scott has claimed nine medals at the World Championships, including four golds medals in relay action. The Scotsman owns a pair of solo medals, a silver in the 200 individual medley from 2023 and a bronze in the 200 freestyle from 2019. His medal count at Worlds stretches over five editions of the competition.

Stat Fact

The 28-year-old ranks among the all-time top-10 performers in a pair of events. In addition to slotting ninth in the 200 individual medley (1:55.28), Scott is ranked 10th in the history of the 200 freestyle (1:44.26).
