The coveted North Carolina basketball job remains vacant, and though the Tar Heels have Michigan basketball head coach Dusty May on their wish list, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
On Friday, May shared that he isn’t interested in any other jobs, but that hasn’t tamped down speculation from many outside of Ann Arbor. However, it’s those inside Ann Arbor who matter most, and on Sunday, the eve of the national championship game, May gave the Wolverines a huge vote of confidence.

According to ESPN insiders Pete Thamel and Jeff Borzello, May has told the maize and blue that he will not be pursuing any jobs other than the one he already has. North Carolina hoped that May would close out his turn in the NCAA Tournament and then be receptive to its advances once he no longer was preparing his team for games in the postseason.
May had opened up on Friday about why he hadn’t simply shot down all of the noise surrounding him and the Tar Heels. He shared simply, noting that his words had been taken out of context before, and he hadn’t wanted to reprise that incident. Likewise, he stated that he’s perfectly happy at Michigan.
“After last year, I decided I’ll never respond to any job speculation,” May said. “I had already agreed to terms with Michigan, was 100 percent done, and I made the comment that I was flattered about a certain job opening because of my background, and that was misconstrued, so I just decided I’m never going to comment on any job that I don’t have. I think it’s well documented how happy I am at Michigan.

“Obviously, my private life, my personal life, my family, their happiness is very important. Yeah, I love it at Michigan, but you’ll never hear me comment on any other job unless Michigan lets me go, and then I’ll comment on every job.”
The job that May referenced last year was Indiana — the one that would have been the biggest threat to lure him away from Ann Arbor. May is an Indiana native, an Indiana graduate, and cut his teeth working under famed head coach Bobby Knight.
