Apr. 20—MITCHELL — A former Class B all-state girls basketball standout is returning to South Dakota to continue her collegiate career, as Presho native and former University of North Dakota guard Skyler Volmer is transferring to Dakota Wesleyan University, the Tigers announced on Monday.

Volmer, a 5-foot-9 guard, has two years of eligibility remaining. Volmer entered the transfer portal on March 30.

Volmer played in 51 games for UND over the last two seasons and started 11 for the Fighting Hawks in 2025-26. She averaged 3.9 points per game, shot nearly 41% from the field and was a 75% free-throw shooter for UND, which was 7-24 overall last season. She scored a career-high 14 points for North Dakota in a Jan. 14 contest against Kansas City.

The Tigers are coming off a 29-7 season and played in the NAIA’s national semifinals in 2026, standing among the final four teams in the national tournament for the third time in the last 10 years. DWU had a 15-game win streak during the season, won the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament title over then-No. 1 Dordt, and hosted national tournament games for the first time in school history.

A 2024 graduate, Volmer starred for Lyman High School from when she was in the eighth grade and scored more than 1,000 points and qualified for the Class B state tournament in 2024, when Lyman finished in fourth place. She also was an accomplished track jumper and hurdler for the Raiders in high school.

Volmer is the second Division I transfer with South Dakota Class B ties that DWU has taken in the last two years. Former Corsica-Stickney standout Avery Broughton transferred from the University of South Dakota and has played for the Tigers the last two seasons, earning GPAC defensive player of the year honors and was an All-American in 2025-26.
