It took them six months, but the Chicago Sky decided they could no longer continue their professional relationship with Angel Reese, trading her to the Atlanta Dream.
The Sky sent the two-time All-Star to the Dream in exchange for first-round picks in 2027 and 2028. Many critics saw the trade coming based on how Reese’s 2025 season ended.

Reese criticized her team back in September as she grew frustrated with the direction they were taking. The Sky finished 10th in the 2024 season and declined further in 2025, finishing tied for the worst record at 10–34.
She criticized both the organization and her teammates, which resulted in a half-game suspension. Reese was the team’s top scorer and rebounder at that point.
“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the team said in a statement.

“We are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”

The two parties ultimately decided to part ways, and while Reese is growing unpopular among Sky fans, one of the team’s co-owners expressed support for the WNBA star.
Reese welcomed the new chapter in her professional basketball career by posting on Instagram, and among the first to comment was former NBA superstar Dwyane Wade, who is among the minority owners of the Sky.

“My gorgeous girl is in ATL!!!❤️❤️”
Other fans are excited about her new era.
“A Barbie in her DREAM house 🥹🥰.”
The Dream impressed last season under first-year coach Karl Smesko, finishing third in the overall standings. However, they were eliminated in the first round by the Indiana Fever. They have not advanced past the first round in the last three seasons, and they are hoping to change that with Reese on their roster.
